Elucidation of the mechanism of cognitive decline in mild cognitive impairment using causal discovery

چکیده
Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is the stage between expected decline of normal aging and more serious dementia. Since MCI may increase risk later developing dementia caused by Alzheimer's disease (AD) or other neurological conditions, it important to detect treat early in order prevent Causal discovery, which can visualize causal relationships (cause effect) among data, has recently been attracting attention. One its algorithms, Linear Non-Gaussian Acyclic Model (LiNGAM), extract variables from statistical data only, using probability distributions that are generally non-Gaussian. In this study, we used LiNGAM analyze gene expression hippocampus healthy subjects patients, also Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) scores, assess decline. We found cell adhesion molecule 4 (CADM4) regulates processes measured terms MMSE scores. Our results revealed a relationship changes allowed us identify genes responsible for decline..

OBJECTIVE To examine the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and cognitive decline in subjects diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). METHODS Neuropsychologic and clinical evaluations were conducted at baseline, 6-months, and 1-year on 286 MCI subjects enrolled in the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative. A global cognitive composite score was derived (mean Z-score) fro...
متن کاملThe Effectiveness of Cognitive Enhancement on Quality of Life in Elderly with Mild Cognitive Impairment
Introduction: Cognitive enhancement is a non-invasive brain method that has the potential to improve cognitive deficits in patients with symptoms of cognitive impairment such as mild cognitive impairment. Studies have not investigated the effectiveness of this method on people's quality of life. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of cognitive enhancement o...
متن کاملRelationship between plasticity, mild cognitive impairment and cognitive decline.
A topic of great interest in gerontology research is the prediction of cognitive deterioration which marks the transition from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to dementia. In this area the term plasticity is a construct of prime importance. Previous studies have demonstrated the existence of plasticity in healthy older persons, and it is thought that this is what discriminates between healthy i...
متن کاملSemantic inhibition impairment in mild cognitive impairment: a distinctive feature of upcoming cognitive decline?
This study aimed to measure semantic inhibitory capacities in persons with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) or mild cognitive impairment (MCI), in healthy older and younger adults. This was done by relying on a computerized adaptation of the Hayling task, designed to diminish the likelihood of using alternative noninhibitory strategies. Participants with both AD and MCI showed impaired p...
